Hellertown woman charged with thefts at Lost River Caverns, gas station

HELLERTOWN, Pa. - Police in Northampton County say a Hellertown woman admitted to two thefts and was involved in a third Wednesday morning, all while her two young children were left home alone.

Martha Toukolehto, 32, is accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from Lost River Caverns and cash from a nearby convenience store.

Hellertown police said they responded to a burglary alarm at Lost River Caverns just after midnight. They found several glass cases damaged and jewelry missing.

Shortly after, police were called to a robbery at Top Star on Main Street. Police said a woman armed with a metal bar made off with cash.

Toukolehto was taken into custody in Bethlehem later Wednesday morning. Police said she admitted to committing both crimes.

Officials also discovered Toukolehto's four- and one-year-old children were home alone in her apartment on East High Street in Hellertown.

Police said the Wawa in Fountain Hill was also robbed Wednesday morning and said the incidents are connected. Officials did not release any more information on the third incident.

Toukolehto is facing charges of robbery, burglary, criminal trespass, receiving stolen property, terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of children, possessing instruments of crime and criminal mischief.
