Husband charged in death of North Catasauqua woman

N. CATASAUQUA, Pa. - A Northampton County man is facing criminal homicide charges in the death of his wife.

North Catasauqua police were called to the 1000 block of 5th Street Friday night for a report of someone in cardiac arrest.

Police say in a basement stairwell, they found Holly Cernobyl, 48, dead. The coroner ruled she died from strangulation and blunt force trauma.

Her husband, Kenneth Cernobyl, 49, was taken into custody at the scene, police said. Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said he is charged with criminal homicide.

Officials believe the Kenneth Cernobyl killed his wife on Wednesday, Morganelli said.

Neighbors did not want to speak on camera, but told 69 News that Holly Cernobyl was a lifelong resident of the area. People in the neighborhood tell us they grew up with Holly and were close friends.

State police, North Catasauqua police, the district attorney's office and the coroner's office are investigating.
