I-78 expansion project between US 22 and Rt. 100 to start Tuesday night

UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. - Work is expected to begin Tuesday night on a project to expand I-78 in Upper Macungie Township.

The $5 million project starts at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

It will add a lane on I-78 east and extend the auxiliary lane on I-78 west between US 22 and Route 100. That stretch of the the roadway is a heavy merge area.

The auxiliary lanes will provide an extra lane between the exits for traffic to safely merge while exiting and entering the highway.
