Jealous man allegedly attacks ex-girlfriend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A Lehigh County man is facing assault charges after allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend as the two discussed his jealously issues.

William T. Demmel allegedly laughed as he attacked the woman inside a West Frankford Street house Friday afternoon in Bethlehem. District Judge Nancy Matos-Gonzalez arraigned the 22-year-old Sunday morning, setting bail at $7,500 with a 10 percent cash option.

The victim told Bethlehem police that she met with Demmel Friday afternoon shortly before 1 p.m. She reported to authorities that the discussion quickly escalated into an argument as Demmel verbally abused and berated her, according to court records.

Things allegedly spiraled further out of control as Demmel allegedly shoved the woman, threw her glasses across the room and fought with her for her cell phone. After reading through her phone, he allegedly hit her in the head with a corner of the phone and grabbed her neck and mouth, according to records.

The victim told police that Demmel allegedly wiped blood from her forehead while laughing at her.

Bethlehem police issued an arrest warrant for Demmel on Friday, charging him with simple assault and harassment.

Demmel, who is from Upper Saucon Township, is a Moravian College student. As part of his bail conditions, the judge has limited his access to campus.

Demmel was released from Northampton County Prison on Tuesday after someone posted $750 bail on his behalf. His next court date is a preliminary hearing scheduled for to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 9.
