Judge Edward Smith sworn in as federal judge in Easton

EASTON, Pa. - The Easton area has the first federal judge to call its own in a decade.

Judge Edward Smith was sworn in Friday as a U.S. district judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

President Obama nominated Smith for the post last summer. He has been on the bench for 12 years in Northampton County.

Smith will hear cases in Easton, which has gone without a federal judge since 2004.
