Jurors hear from convicted cop killer's family, friends

EASTON, Pa. - Testimony continued Tuesday in the penalty phase of the George Hitcho, Jr. murder trial.

Hitcho was convicted last week of the first degree murder of Freemansburg Police Officer Robert Lasso. Now the same jury is hearing testimony to decide if Hitcho will get life in prison or death.

In testimony, Hitcho's attorney told jurors he is not a bad person, he just did a horrible thing. That was followed by Hitcho's friends and family taking the stand hoping to spare the life of the convicted murderer with their words.

A long time friend testified Hitcho suffered at least one traumatic injury while on a job site several years ago. The defense says brain damage and drug use contributed to slew of mental issues. Both are issues that have played a key role in the defense.

Testimony is expected to last until Wednesday. The Northampton Co. District Attorney will continue to press for the death penalty.
