Jury selection begins in Lawrence Gaines trial

Fight over drugs led to fatal stabbing, Easton police say

EASTON, Pa. - Jury selection has begun in the case of Lawrence Gaines, who is charged with homicide in the death of William Thompson.

The 44-year-old Gaines is accused of killing Thompson, 43, during a fight over drugs last summer in Easton.

The trial will be in Northampton County Court.

Police caught Gaines as he was walking down South 11th Street in Easton on July 4, only blocks away from where  they say he stabbed Thompson the previous day.

 The stabbing took place at Ferry and Union streets,  in front of Northampton County Prison.

Gaines previously has been jailed for theft, criminal conspiracy, and simple assault.
