Kevin Esterly appears in court, status conference scheduled

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The man accused of taking an Allentown teen out of the country was in court briefly Thursday morning for his formal arraignment.

Kevin Esterly entered the Allentown courtroom but left moments later. His status conference is scheduled for July 13.

Esterly is charged with interference with custody of a child, after police say he took Amy Yu, 16, to Mexico earlier this year.

Authorities say Esterly signed Yu out of school and the two ran off to Mexico.

They were located by federal marshals at a resort in Mexico in March after a nearly two-week search.

Esterly waived his preliminary hearing.
