King's life, legacy celebrated with events around region

The life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were celebrated around the region Monday.

The Allentown branch of the NAACP hosted its 33rd annual "Tribute to a King Celebration" at the St. James AME Zion Church at 4th and Union streets.

The event featured lots of music and a speech from the Rev. James Ivory Jackson.

The Swain School in Allentown also paused to remember King with its third annual community celebration, called "A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: A Day of Remembrance, Celebration and Service."

The program featured educational sessions and discussions for all ages, from kids to adults.

Organizers said it's a great way for everyone to learn about King's life and celebrate his accomplishments.

The MLK Day celebration continued in Easton.

Dozens gathered Monday afternoon at the Greater Shiloh Church for an annual event to honor the civil rights leader.

The program featured presentations from the Easton chapter of the Pennsylvania Orators, which is a non-profit group that trains kids in the art of public speaking.
