Lafayette College student dies after 'medical emergency'

VIDEO Authorities investigate death...

EASTON, Pa. - Authorities are investigating the death of a 19-year-old Lafayette College lacrosse player who suffered a "medical emergency."

Easton police said Lafayette officials responded Sunday afternoon to a medical call for a student outside Ruef Hall North.

McCrae Williams, of Weston, Massachusetts, fell and suffered a head injury outside the dorm, officials said. He died at the hospital around 5 p.m. Monday, according the Lehigh County coroner's office.

Investigators said they believe the medical emergency stemmed from a "chain of events" starting Saturday afternoon. They are investigating if alcohol played a role. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Easton police, Lafayette College public safety, the district attorney's office, and the coroner's office are all involved in the investigation.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to McCrae's family and friends," said Alison Byerly, Lafayette's president, adding that Williams' parents were with him when he died.

Police said they don't believe there is any threat to the public.
