LANTA bus driver struck in head with ceramic coffee mug

NORTHAMPTON, Pa. - An officer was dispatched to the area of 15th and Washington in Northampton Borough for the report of an assault Oct. 4.

A LANTA bus driver told police a rider, the defendant, John C. Gardner, walked up behind the driver and hit him in the head with a ceramic coffee mug around 2:30 p.m.

The incident took place just as the driver was making a detour, which he said he announced, onto East 15th Street, according to the affidavit.

The driver was operating the LANTA bus with three occupants when he was struck, which placed them in danger, the affidavit states.

The victim was transported to Muhlenberg hospital for a large laceration to the forehead.
