Lehigh commissioners defer vote on water and sewer lease

Lehigh commissioners defer vote on water and sewer lease

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Lehigh County Authority is in a race against time to submit a bid on Allentown's controversial water and sewer lease.

The LCA must submit its bid by March 21st, but because the water lease is for 50 years, and the authority's charter will expire in 36 years, the charter would have to be extended by Lehigh County Commissioners.

At a meeting Wednesday night, the commissioners deferred a vote on the matter.  They're expected to discuss it again on March 13th.

The process of extending the charter would likely take more than a week, so the LCA could miss the bid deadline.
