DA: Lehigh Twp. shooting could qualify as capital murder

EASTON, Pa. - Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said figuring out the motive in a case of homicide in Lehigh Township is going to be a priority. He said he believes, at this point, it was some level of a personal dispute and that possibly money was involved.

John Hann is the man police said is responsible for fatally shooting Joseph Mullner Jr., 64, and injuring Mullner's wife, Melinda, at their home Wednesday night.

"A phone call came in from Melinda, who had contacted us via 911 radio center that her and her husband, Joeseph Mullner Jr., have been shot, and she identified the individual who shot her as her husband's cousin," Morganelli said.

According to police, Hann, 61, drove to the Mullners' home in the 500 block of Longacre Drive around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

When Hann got there, he fired several shots that hit Mullner and his wife, police said. Mullner later died; his wife is still in the hospital.

Morganelli said a cell phone led Pennsylvania State Police to a home in Bushkill Township.

While searching for John Hann after the shooting Wednesday night, police converged on his home in the 200 block of Cherry Court in Bushkill Township. Police broke several windows in the home in an attempt to find Hann.

According to Northampton County records, Hann was fairly new to the neighborhood. He bought this home in November 2016.

Hann will be arraigned and charged with criminal homicide.

The district attorney said he plans to carefully review the case as he said it may qualify as a capital murder case.
