ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A prominent attorney in the Lehigh Valley expects to see a surge in same-sex divorces in the Keystone State.
Attorney Melissa Pavlack filed divorce papers at the Lehigh County courthouse Wednesday for a client who had a civil union in Vermont back in 2000.
Before Tuesday's court ruling, Pavlack says couples who had same sex-marriages in other states couldn't get divorced in Pennsylvania.
"Our divorce law is basically premised on our marriage law first. That's why we couldn't do the same-sex divorces... because our marriage law didn't recognize the same-sex marriages," Pavlack said.
Pavlack says same-sex divorces will follow the rules of any other divorce.
