Lehigh Valley Health Network lays off 70

Lehigh Valley Health Network says it's taking action to strengthen itself for the future.

On Wednesday, the network eliminated 70 management and administrative positions.

It says it's being challenged by forces such as changing payer mix, declining reimbursement, shifting care delivery from hospitals to outpatient facilities and growing competition from retail health care providers.

"Our plan includes aggressively creating access in areas of community need and restructuring management and administrative positions to care for the community at a lower cost while maintaining high quality."

The Lehigh Valley Health Network, however, assures individuals it has not eliminated positions that impact patient care and are in fact actively recruiting in areas where growth is needed to meet patient demand.
