Lehigh Valley Road Runners' donations top $500K

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - One club's contributions have reached half a million dollars over a 10-year period.

The Lehigh Valley Road Runners' donations have gone to over 40 Lehigh Valley nonprofit organizations, some of which include Boy Scouts and Faith Church Youth Ministries. The group also awards seven scholarships to Lehigh Valley high school students annually.

"Expanding local running opportunities -- especially for community's youth -- is a chief goal for the Lehigh Valley Road Runners," Club President Neal Novak said in a news release. "We're so proud to help so many Lehigh Valley schools and other worthy organizations through our races."

The Road Runners host 22 races throughout the year, with the majority of its funds raised through St. Luke's races, which includes its half marathon.

The club raised $10,000 the past few years from its half marathon for St. Luke's Mobile Youth Health Centers, which provide free medical and dental care to middle and high school students who cannot otherwise receive treatment.

The Allentown School District has also been a beneficiary of the Road Runners' contributions.
