Lehigh Valley store brings hope to shoppers

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Alan Rosenfeld says he's part of something special, a store where the merchandise is the product of hope and the currency used is kindness.

"My wife and I volunteer here once a week," said Rosenfeld.

The Lehigh Valley Hope room has been open since September, but already it's helped roughly 1500 people shop for the things they need.

"There is no money involved. It's all volunteers and all the clothing that you see in this room and items in this room are all donations," said Executive Education Academy Charter School CEO Robert Lysek.

The Hope Room is located in the charter school on Union Boulevard in Allentown.

The Hope Room gets its name from its mission...to Help Other People Every day.

A theme that grew out of a partnership between the charter school and the Lehigh Valley Business Group.

It has expanded to include local churches and non profits.

Many of which donate items or refer community members.

"Anybody qualifies. We don't  turn anybody down. We determine if somebody does show up at the doors and they are in need," said Lysek.

Hope Room officials say in addition to helping people with new clothes, house wares and furniture, they also wants to help those who want to get rid of items.

On May 6th the store will be sponsoring a huge community garage sale.

"It‘s where people can pay a fee for a space, sell their stuff and what they have left over they can consider donating to the Hope Room," said Lehigh Valley Business Group Founder Kevin Cope.

Alan, his wife Kathy and the rest of the volunteers will get it ready to go back into the community.
