Lehigh Valley Zoo otters predict Eagles win Super Bowl in overtime

A crowd of Eagles fans watched in suspense

Lehigh Valley zoo otters predict Eagles win Super Bowl

SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa - The Lehigh Valley Zoo got in on the Super Bowl spirit Saturday holding its 7th annual Otter Bowl where the otters make their picks for the big game.

"Six years we have done it previously and four out of the six years, our otters have selected accurately," said Melissa Borland, president of the Lehigh Valley Zoo.

Zoo keepers wrapped sardines in two papier-mâché footballs, one for the Philadelphia Eagles and the other for the New England Patriots. Then they  released the otters, Naya and Luani, to make their Super Bowl predictions.

"I was biting my nails," said Borland.

Borland is a die-hard Eagles fan.

"I grew up in Philadelphia and I am a true Eagles fan," said Borland.

She and a crowd full of other Eagles fans watched in suspense as the otters went back and fourth, making their tackles and the result shocked the stadium.

"It was actually a split decision," said Borland.

The female otter, Naya, chose the Patriots and Luani, the male, chose the Eagles. But Naya eventually joined Luani, picking the Eagles too.

"So what we're thinking is that this means we're going to go into overtime and the Eagles are going to win it," said Borland.

And Borland says she's praying for that win, not only because she bleeds green but because she made a bet with her zoo keepers.

"If the Patriots do win, I'm going to put on a Patriots jersey which is going to make me cry but I will do it out of good sportsmanship and I, for the keepers that day, will clean out the goat barn," said Borland.
