Local JFK expert reacts to newly released documents

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Looking around Political Science Professor Chris Borick's office at Muhlenberg College, you'll find all kinds of President John F. Kennedy memorabilia.

Stuff like mints and bobble heads and a hardcover of the Warren Commission Report.

Borick says he has been pouring over the 2,800 JFK assassination files since they were released Thursday.

He says there are no bombshells, but a lot of fresh perspectives, like the Russian reaction.

"One of shock and sadness about the loss of President Kennedy," said Borick.

Borick says there are also memos from FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, who was furious about the death of his prime suspect Lee Harvey Oswald.

"The thing I'm concerned about is having something issued so we can convince the public that Oswald is the real assassin," Borick said.

The documents talk about some theories, from a second shooter, to mafia involvement and speculation by Presidents Johnson and Nixon that the assassination was political retribution.

Not all of the documents were released due to national security concerns.

But what is available can be found online.
