Local man gets gold

QUAKERTOWN, Pa. -

A local man returned a hero after winning a gold medal at the Special Olympic World Games.

Ernie Reich is an alpine skier and he competes with the U.S. national team.

Reich recently captured a gold medal while competing at the winter games in Austria.

"Austria was one of the most biggest challenges I have ever done in my life. It's the biggest challenge I ever done," Reich said. "It was a lot of hard work. And I have been praying for this for my whole entire life since I was a kid."

Prayer and lots of practiced helped but Ernie earn this gold medal, but the achievement was also a promise he made to his family.

"Here it is right here. I told them I was going to, I was going to bring this home with me" Reich said.

Bring home the gold he did.

It's an experience Ernie won't soon forget.

One he will cherish, just like this medal, for the rest of his life.
