Steelhawks move to PPL Center

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Football is coming to the PPL Center in Allentown.

The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks announced Thursday that the professional indoor football team will move from Stabler Arena on the Lehigh University campus in Bethlehem to the new PPL Center in downtown Allentown.

The soon-to-open arena can hold a crowd of more than 8,500.

"This is a great day for the Steelhawks as we get to not only play in a brand new, state-of-the-art arena like the PPL Center, but also raise our 2014 National Conference Championship banner in it on opening night," said Chris Thompson, the team's head coach.

As a football field, the facility will be a full 50 yards long, plus eight-yard end zones, and will feature the rounded off end zones that most of the teams in the league have, according to a Steelhawks news release.

The team will play all of its home games at the PPL Center, which is also home to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL Philadelphia Flyers.
