LVHN wins national award for palliative medicine service

LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. - The American Hospital Association recently awarded a 2014 "Circle of Life Award" to the Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) Palliative Medicine Program.

The award was in recognition of the LVHN's innovation in palliative and end-of-life-care.

More than 100 programs from the US vied for the honor, one of the highest in the growing discipline of palliative care.

The "optimizing advanced complex illness support" (OACIS) program was established in 2006 at LVHN and it was the first formal palliative medicine program in the area for advanced complex support to patients in the hospital, outpatient clinics and homes.

LVHN was honored along with Baylor Health Care System in Texas and Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital in Washington State.
