LVIA welcomes new K-9 officer

HANOVER TWP., Pa. - The Lehigh Valley International Airport is stepping up its security measures.

The airport authority welcomed a new K-9 police officer Tuesday, Officer Mikki.

The airport has been without a K-9 unit for five years after the last dog retired and was never replaced for budget reasons.

Officials hope Mikki will help keep criminals at bay.

"If we can make somebody think differently or twice about doing something here -- whether it's trying to sneak something past or take violent action, whatever the case may be.. if we can make them think twice by the presence of a dog.. all the better," said James Scoble, Mikki's partner.

Mikki is a 19-month-old Belgian Malinois. She was imported from Holland and her handler said she only understands commands in Dutch.
