ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A Maryland truck driver is heading to trial on charges he caused a deadly crash in Lehigh County.

A preliminary hearing was held Friday for Oliver Savage of Tall Timbers, Maryland.

The accident, involving two tractor trailers and a minivan, happened on February 10 in the 9200 block of Hamilton Boulevard, at Newtown Road, in Upper Macungie Township.

The minivan, driven by James Knappenberger, of Breinigsville, was stopped in the northbound lane at the intersection when a tractor trailer, driven by Savage couldn't stop and hit the back of the minivan.

The impact pushed the minivan into the southbound lane, where it was hit by another tractor trailer, driven by Sidney Huntoon, 70, of Bath, Northampton County.

Knappenberger, 77, of Breinigsville, died at the scene, officials said. No one else was injured.

Savage told police he was approaching a traffic signal and did not see stopped traffic until it was too late, according to court documents.

In addition to being charged with homicide by vehicle, Savage is charged with involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person, careless driving, following too closely and driving at an unsafe speed.
