Man accused of killing cousin headed to trial

EASTON, Pa. - A preliminary hearing for suspect John Hann, accused of shooting and killing his first cousin Joseph Mullner and injuring Mullner's wife Melinda, was held inside the Northampton County Courthouse Friday.

"This isn't a 'who done it', we know he did it because of the outstanding job of the police," said Terence Houck.

Prosecutor Houck callled three witnesses to testify Friday: A Lehigh Township police officer who responded to the shooting call at the Mullner's house, a Bethlehem Township police officer who was there for the nearly three-hour stand off the following day and a Pennsylvania State Trooper who interviewed Melinda Mullner in the hospital.

"He didn't finish the job, which hurt him and that's why we have Ms. Mullner filling in some gaps for us," Houck said.

Police say Hann was visiting the Mullners at their house Oct. 4 with his special needs sister.

Investigators say he then shot Joseph and Melinda multiple times. Joseph was found dead on the sidewalk and Melinda was found badly injured in the kitchen.

"It's a battle you know, she was shot several times but thankfully she's alive. She's still with us so we're very hopeful," said Houck.

Police say Melinda played dead and then called 911.

The following morning, police waited outside Hann's home after he eventually left in a pickup truck with his sister in the vehicle.

Police pulled him over but he wouldn't cooperate and a stand-off ensued.

Hann is charged with murder, attempted murder, and a list of others including cruelty to animals as he's accused of also shooting the Mullners pet dog.

He's due back in court Jan. 25 for a formal arraignment.
