Man accused of trying to blow up own car in Lower Nazareth parking lot

LOWER NAZARETH, Pa. - Colonial Regional Police charged a man with arson, after he tried to blow up his own car.

Police say around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, they saw fire coming from the gas tank area of a vehicle in the parking lot of the Wegmans in Lower Nazareth Township. 

Police put out the fire and discovered it was intentionally set by putting a rag or shirt in the gas tank and lighting it on fire. 

According to police, they identified the suspect as Eric Burgey, 26. He was arrested and taken to the Northampton County Prison to be arraigned on charges of arson, risking a catastrophe, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, and restriction on alcoholic beverages.
