Man allegedly tosses bike through window, welcomes himself in

Police allege he brandished a pocket knife

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - An unwelcome house guest is facing assault charges after allegedly throwing a bicycle through a front window and letting himself in.

Allentown police charged Rodney A. Edwards Jr. with a handful of offenses following the family dust-up shortly after noon on Friday. District Judge Tom Creighton arraigned the 20-year-old later that night, setting bail at $10,000.

Officers responded to the South Hall Street home about noon for a report of a person with a weapon. Police said Edwards’ mother frantically called 911, screaming that her son had broken in and had a knife, according to court records.

Police arrived to find the large front window broken with a bicycle just inside. The victim said Edwards smashed the window with the bike after she refused to let him in. He then allegedly crawled into the living room.

Edwards was allegedly holding an open pocket knife and reportedly wanted a PlayStation console. His mother again ordered him to leave. After Edwards’ ordered his mother out of the way, she asked, “Are you gonna cut me?” according to records.

He replied, “If I have to.” Edwards proceeded to push her out of the way. A pair of younger children retreated from the house after seeing Edwards with a knife.

When police arrested Edwards, they allegedly found a digital scale covered with pot residue in his pocket.

Authorities charged him with two counts of reckless endangerment and single counts of simple assault, terroristic threats and possession of drug paraphernalia. Edwards failed to post bail and was sent to Lehigh County Jail to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 20.
