Man charged in alleged drunken assault of officer

Homeless man accused of kicking police officer

EASTON, Pa. - A homeless Easton man is facing assault charges for allegedly kicking an officer in the groin during a drunken disturbance at a pizza shop.

Authorities charged John J. Dzwonkowski with aggravated assault, criminal mischief and public drunkenness following his arrest Monday at Gino’s Pizza in the 300 block of Northampton Street. District Judge Daniel Corpora arraigned the 40-year-old, setting bail at $50,000.

Police were dispatched to the pizza shop shortly before 2 p.m. for a report of a drunken and disorderly man. When police tried to speak with him, authorities allege Dzwonkowski became combative and charged the officer, according to court records.

While being taken into custody, Dzwonkowski allegedly kicked an officer in the groin and tried to spit blood on police, according to records.

Dzwonkowski failed to post bail and was sent to Northampton County Prison to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 20.
