Man charged in deadly Allentown gas station shooting

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A man is facing charges in connection with a deadly shooting that left two dead in Allentown last week.

Kareem Sanders, 24, of Allentown, is charged with criminal homicide in what police called a "gun battle" at a gas station on Airport Road around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Allentown police said Sanders, Cassieam Hicks, 28, and Danny Cancel, 36, were around a car at the gas station when gunfire broke out.

Surveillance video shows Sanders shoot Cancel, police said.

Cancel collapsed inside the store and was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Hicks was also shot and died at the scene from a gunshot wound.

Sanders fled the scene but showed up at the hospital about an hour later with a gunshot wound, police said. He was listed in critical condition at the time.

It is not clear who shot Hicks and Sanders.

Sanders was arraigned Friday on charges of criminal homicide and prohibited possession of a firearm. He was denied bail and is being held in Lehigh County Jail.
