ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Police are investigating a shooting that left a man in Allentown dead Wednesday.
The coroner identified the man as Carlos N. Lugo Jr.
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Westminster Street. Lugo, 35, of Allentown, subsequently died in the driveway of a home.
A neighbor told 69 News at the scene that he heard about five or six shots, went outside his house and saw the victim on the pavement.
The man said someone tried to rob his neighbor, who then apparently shot and killed the would-be robber.
Police said another man was taken from the scene to the hospital for treatment of injuries, which were not gunshot wounds.
The coroner said Lugo died of a gunshot wound to the body, and the death was ruled a homicide.
WFMZ's Jaccii Farris knocked on the door of the alleged shooter's home, and a family member asked for privacy but said the shooting was in self-defense.
The Lehigh County coroner's office and the Allentown Police Department are conducting the investigation, with the assistance of Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin and the homicide task force.
