Man killed in crash with fire truck in Allen Township identified

ALLEN TWP., Pa. - A man killed when his car hit a fire truck in Northampton County on Friday has been identified.

Authorities say Justin Gnas, 24, of Danielsville, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Northampton County coroner says Gnas died from wounds sustained in the crash and has ruled the manner of death accidental.

The accident was reported around 7:15 a.m. in the 4000 block of Cherryville Road in Allen Township.

According to police, Gnas was driving north when he crossed the center line and slammed into the oncoming Slatington Volunteer Fire Department truck, which was on its way to be serviced, officials said.

It wasn't the first time an accident like this has happened along the stretch of road.

"Up there, there was another accident on this road," said neighbor Frank Ziegler

In May 2016, a 60-year-old woman was killed driving near the same bend, when a 18-year-old woman's car crossed the center line.

Ziegler put reinforced concrete on the front of his roadside rental property after he says three cars slammed into it.

Ziegler said he thinks the problem is speed.

"It's a fast road," he said.

Officials haven't said whether speed played a role in Friday's crash, but Ziegler said it does play a role in the numerous crashes he sees.

"My father-in-law lives over the hill. He's had someone hit his garage, and twice they were in his yard," he described.

Cherryville Road, which was closed between Kohls Road and Locust Drive in neighboring Lehigh Township, reopened shortly after 3 p.m.
