Pedestrian killed in Lehigh County

HANOVER TWP., Pa. - Police are investigating an accident where a minivan hit and killed a pedestrian early Wednesday morning.

The accident happened around 5:15 a.m. on Race Street, just east of Fashion Drive in Hanover Twp., Lehigh County.

The Lehigh County coroner's office said 59-year-old Benjamin Sandoval of Houston, Texas was pronounced dead at the scene at 6 a.m. The coroner has ruled the death an accident.

State police said Patel Maheshbhai of Bethlehem was driving the minivan that struck the pedestrian as he was crossing the road.

Race Street was closed between Airport and Willowbrook roads while police investigated.

This is the same area of Race Street where two people were killed as they stood at the bus stop in September of 2012.

Caitlyn Clark, 26, lost control of her SUV and hit a utility pole before crashing into a group of four men waiting at the bus stop, state police said.

Angel Bosch, 28, of Easton and Elias Tabarani, 51, of Allentown were killed in the incident, police said.

The other two men, Angel Guerrido-Lopez, 38, and Lawrence Oyster, 37, were hurt.

Clark was ordered to stand trial on charges of vehicular homicide in November of 2013.

She pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of homicide by vehicle and related charges.

A sentencing date was not available.

Anyone with information on Wednesday's incident is asked to call state police in Bethlehem at 610-861-2026.
