Man lands in jail on outstanding warrant, $1 bail

Police allegedly caught 61-year-old with pot

MACUNGIE, Pa. - Police have charged a Lower Macungie Township man with minor drug offenses after allegedly finding him hiding inside a VFW post.

And now he’s in Lehigh County Jail on an outstanding warrant after failing to post his $1 bail.

Macungie police charged Kenneth P. Miller, of the 5000 block East Texas Road, with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in connection with the incident inside the Macungie VFW post on Feb. 19. District Judge Donna Butler arraigned the 61-year-old Monday morning on the misdemeanor charges, setting the nominal bail amount.

Court and online records indicate Miller was in Lehigh County Jail Monday after failing to post bail. Court records also note that he’s wanted on a warrant from the Lehigh County Sheriff’s Department for failing to appear in court.

Borough police were dispatched to the VFW at 287 Lehigh St. to investigate an automatic alarm. Court records do not indicate the time of the alleged offense.

After checking the building perimeter, an officer allegedly found Miller inside the men’s bathroom, according to court records. Police said he was not authorized to be in the building.

A search turned up a baggie of suspected marijuana in his pocket along with a small pipe that smelled of burnt marijuana, according to records. He told police he smoked pot hours earlier.

Miller’s next court date is a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for March 6. Prior to his most recent arrest, Miller pleaded guilty in May 2015 to driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level of at least 0.16 percent.

Court records appear to indicate that he violated the conditions of his parole.
