Man pinned under pick-up truck in Bath

Todd Dayles of Blakeslee seriously injured

BATH, Pa. - A 61-year-old Monroe County man was pinned under a pick-up truck when a co-worker accidentally backed into him Thursday morning.

Todd Dayles of Blakeslee was seriously injured in the accident, which occurred at 10:06 a.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Independence Avenue in Bath, Northampton County.

Dayles, who is employed by Prolific Landscaping of Wind Gap, was hit by the company's pick-up truck.

The truck was driven by Dayles' co-worker, 48-year-old Alcangel Alcantara of Bethlehem.

According to Colonial Regional police, Alcantara was backing up the truck in a driveway when he noticed a trimmer on the truck was about to fall off.  He told police he intended to brake, but hit the gas pedal instead, causing the truck to back up fast.

The truck hit Dayles, who was facing the opposite direction. He was pinned underneath it.

Alcantara and another Prolific Landscaping employee worked to free him.

After being stabilized by emergency personnel, Dayles was transported by ambulance to the Parkridge ballfield, then airlifted by Penn Star helicopter to St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill, Lehigh County.

In addition to Colonial Regional police, Bath EMS Fire and Rescue and Bethlehem Township medics assisted at the accident scene.
