Million Dollar Listing New York star speaks to 69 News

VIDEO: Fredrik Eklund makes a splash...

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Dancing to Justin Timberlake's I Got This Feeling, Fredrik Eklund knows how to make an entrance as he slid into the ArtsQuest at SteelStacks in Bethlehem Friday.

He also knows how to make an impact on the world of real estate.

The 40-year-old is also one of the stars of Bravo's hit show Million Dollar Listing New York.

Since 2003 the Swedish-born Eklund, known for his quirky, high energy style, has sold $5 billion worth of Big Apple real estate.

His bestselling book The Sell tells the secrets of his success.

69 News caught up with Eklund at the Lehigh Valley Realtor Association Signature event, where he traded skyscrapers for SteelStacks, as the keynote speaker.

"What advice do you have for anyone not only wanting to be a realtor but getting in any kind of business?" we asked.

“To be a good a seller, my theory is you have to be yourself,” Eklund answered.

When he traded Stockholm for New York nearly 15 year ago, it took Eklund six months to get his first deal.\

He says he was at first nervous and shy but soon found that quirky inner Eklund that’s helped him rise to the top of Manhattan's 65,000 real estate agents.

"I never wanted to have a salary. I never know what I wanted to make. I always work in commission. I just have that in me," he said.

Whether that's going medieval by wearing a suit of armor to close a multimillion dollar, or breaking into a dance during an interview (he apparently likes salsa dancing,) Eklund says staying true to you pays off big.

"Be who you are with your wife or your friends. That's the guy you should be at work. I never understood this is me in the board room, this is me with my friends," he said.

Eklund says Allentown's billion-dollar downtown development is a golden opportunity for local agents.

"You have to have a track record and be really good at what you do. Especially with developers, you have to prove yourself over and over that you are really good," Eklund said.

He's currently filming a new Bravo show with Real Housewives of New York star Bethany Frankel.

But Million Dollar Listing fans don't worry, he says he signed on for three more seasons.

As for the show, Eklund says filming is nine months out of the year, with a half week of filming.

Eklund calls it elevated therapy.

"I watch the show and say, what did I do? I don't want to be that guy, I don't want to say those things, I want to be better," he said.

Regardless, whether on stage, street, or screen, Eklund is proving his business style is priceless.
