Missing hiker Matthew Greene's family feels helpless

Missing hiker's sister speaks out

Tiffany Minto hasn't had much to smile about lately.

"Nobody ever expects one of their loved ones to go missing," she said.

Minto's older brother, Matthew Greene, hasn't been heard from since July 16. The 39-year-old Bethlehem man was on a hiking trip in California, but he never met up with friends as planned after getting his car fixed.

"He never picked up his car. They called the campsite and the campsite still had all of his [camping] gear," explained Tiffany.

Tiffany and her family have been in the dark for 23 days. Their only clues are the supplies missing from Matthew's camp site.

"So there's really not allot of clues to go by," she said. "And that's kind of the pitfall of the investigation right now, is where could he have gone?"

Search teams have combed the Mammoth Lakes area near Yosemite National Park where the Nazareth Area High School math teacher was staying.

"I want to be hopeful," said Tiffany, as she choked back tears. "But yet at this point, it's so hard to be hopeful."

Tiffany started a Facebook page to help with the hunt. The family just wants to spread the word in hopes someone knows something, and they can bring Matthew home.

"At this point, no matter what the outcome, we just want to find him. We just want to know what happened to him."

A group of Matthew's friends from the area plan to head out West in the next few days to search for him. Funds are being raised to help pay for the trip, and hopefully Matthew's medical care once he's found.
