Muhlenberg student allegedly pulls knife in dorm room

Police said he made threats to kill two women

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A Muhlenberg College student is facing charges after authorities allege he threatened a fellow student with a knife inside a college dorm room.

Harrison B. Callahan, of Chester County, faces simple assault, harassment and terroristic threats charges, all misdemeanors, for the alleged incident inside Walz Hall last month. District Judge Ronald Manescu arraigned the 19-year-old Thursday. He was released on $15,000 unsecured bail.

Authorities said the incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. Jan. 28. The victim was in a dorm room with Callahan, when he became “agitated” about a text message she had received, according to court records. He started punching the desk before allegedly pulling out a 5- to 6-inch knife.

Callahan reportedly began ranting about a second woman that he wanted to strangle during a recent disciplinary hearing that involved the two of them. Police said he then allegedly threatened to kill her if he saw her again.

As the first woman tried to calm in down out of fear he’d use the knife on her, Callahan allegedly pointed the knife at her throat and said, “If you tell anyone about this, I will cut your heart and kill you,” according to records.

He put the knife away, and friends retrieved the woman from the room. The two victims reported the incident to campus security on Jan. 30, and police began investigating the incident the following day.

A college spokesperson would only confirm that Callahan and the woman he threatened with the knife are students.

His next court date is a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Feb. 23.
