N.J. man jailed for allegedly assaulting, holding woman captive at Sands casino

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Police arrested a man after he reported that he was assaulted by his girlfriend at the Sands casino, officials said.

Robert B. Fulford IV called police to a room at the Sands at about 3:20 a.m. Monday and said his girlfriend, Marybeth Kostek, was responsible for a cut under his left eye, officials said.

Kostek told a different story -- that Fulford became angry after she had fallen asleep several hours earlier and had been throwing her to the ground for several hours, and that she suffered a cut knee that needed four stitches, officials said.

Kostek also said Fulford took her cell phone and wouldn't let her leave the room, officials said.

Fulford, 41, of 54 East Richdale Ave., Morristown, N.J., was arraigned Monday morning on charges of assault, harassment and unlawful restraint and committed to Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 30.
