N. Whitehall Twp. supervisors OK conditional use for antique shop

NORTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - The North Whitehall Township Board of Supervisors granted conditional use approval for an antique store on Route 309 in Orefield during Monday night's meeting.

The vote was 2-1 with Supervisor Richard Celmer dissenting.

The 1,500 square-foot store application was submitted by Gerald and Elena Rickheim for the location at 2863 Route 309.

During the roughly 45-minute public hearing, Gerald Rickheim said he has owned the property, a former dwelling, for about one year and it was "time to do something with it.

He said there would be six parking spaces at the shop that would use the first floor of the building.

Gerald Rickheim said he planned to be open just a few days a week  and would only be open for roughly about half-dozen hours a day, to give supervisors the impression that this would very much be a small-time operation.

"I expect about 25 to 30 cars a day," said Gerald Rickheim. "...This is definitely not a Wawa."

Celmer stated during the hearing he was concerned about the tight parking lot and limited access to the proposed relic shop.

"I have no opposition to what you are doing, it is the site," said Celmer. "However I am concerned about the location of the building in proximity to the roadway."

The proposed site is on the south side or Orefield Road, on the east side of Route 309.

The antique store had received approval from the township's planning commission following a hearing on February 25th.
