Names Of Victims Released In Fatal Motorcycle Crash

BANGOR, Pa. - The Northampton County Coroner's office released the names of two motorcyclists killed in a fiery crash Friday afternoon in Bangor.

Coroner Zach Lysek said Keith Michaelson, 52, from New Jersey and Michael Zadoyko, 47, also of New Jersey both died as a result of multiple blunt force trauma. Lysek said the manner of death was accidental.

Michaelson and Zadoyko were members of the Last Chance Motorcycle Club. Four other riders were injured as a result of the crash.

It happened on Route 512 just before 5:00p.m. Friday afternoon. Police said a truck driven by John P. Heaney, of Lopatcong, New Jersey collided with the motorcyclists.

One of the Last Chance members, George Courtis, tells 69 News the group of seven motorcyclists were traveling from the Greenwood Lake, New York Chapter of the club to pay respects to a member who passed away from cancer.

Trucker Mike Van Elswyk saw the scene just seconds after the crash.

"I just saw fire, smoke," he said. "I just saw a bunch of bikes in the road."

A 69 News reporter asked if Van Elswyk saw any victims.

"There was people in the road, yeah," he replied.

Authorities will only say the six motorcycles collided with a pick-up truck. There is no word on whether the truck driver was hurt, or the conditions of any of those sent to the hospital. Police are also not commenting on how the accident happened.

Courtis told 69 News he saw the truck and first motorcycle in his group collide, and the motorcycle burst into flames. He said another driver drove through the flames, and is being treated at the hospital for burns.

"The state police accident reconstruction team has been called to the scene, and we're still doing a lot of work," said Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek.

Rt. 512 was closed for several hours after the deadly crash.

The Northampton County District Attorneys Office, Bangor Police, and Pennsylvania State Police are still investigating the crash.
