National Ninja Throwing League begins in Whitehall

VIDEO: National Ninja Throwing League...

WHITEHALL, Pa. - Stealthy moves and sharp skills are both necessary to be part of the National Ninja Throwing League, the first of its kind in the country.

"I created a sport by putting modern twists on an ancient art of shuriken throwing or ninja star throwing," said David Nemeroff, owner of Aikido Masters Self Defense Academy and founder of the league.

He said he has inspired other instructors around the nation to be part of the unique sport.

And some people said the ninja star gatherings here in the Lehigh Valley have actually become a family affair.

“My son participates in the adult throwing league and my granddaughter participates in the kids throwing league," said Colin Bosler, who is also an instructor at the school.

“I was watching dad one time and I thought it looked really cool so I wanted to do the kid’s one," granddaughter Renee Pasko said.

Kids in the class say the sport allows them to improve their concentration and focus and feel more relaxed.

10-year-old William Hoffman said, "It helps relieve some stress like after school, if I come here and I throw ninja stars it relieves the stress out of my body."

And it’s a little fun, too, helping adults live out their childhood dreams.

"When we all grew up we all wanted to be ninjas," admitted Bosler.

If you want to try your hand at ninja star throwing, the league is having a tournament and open house on July 22 at Aikido Masters Self Defense Academy in Whitehall.
