New Cyber Charter school to help bi-lingual students

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Area students who are currently enrolled in a cyber-school program now have a schoolhouse of sorts.

Workers with the Achievement House Cyber Charter School held an open house Monday night in Bethlehem with the goal of introducing parents and potential students to their latest addition, their new Lehigh Valley Education Center.

Run by public funds any Pennsylvania student from grades 7 through 12 can enroll into Achievement House Cyber Charter School and learn via computer, normally from home.

However students will now have a physical place to go to take classes.

At the Lehigh Valley Education Center on East 4th Street in Bethlehem, students will be able to sit down, log on and take their own classes but be supervised as well as get help if needed especially if the help in language.

"We understand that some of our students are coming without strong English skills" said Alane Butler, orientation and outreach specialist with Achievement House.

Bilingual staff will provide help to students in need of English Language Learning or ELL "If they're having any difficulty we can work with them one on one, give them tutoring and whatever special needs they have....we'll be extending that to the parents as well, we're going to be offering Rosetta stone for English, for the parents of our students who want to learn English" said Butler.

Achievement House expects to enroll about 35 students for this coming semester, classes begin January 28th.
