New apartment complex finds home in Easton

EASTON, Pa. - The Easton Planning Commission has given the green light for an old south side warehouse to be developed into new apartments.

Easton Yards will be built at 475 W. Lincoln Street.

The fate of the property has been unknown for several years. There were talks about using the space as a 5-story hydroponic farm but plans fell through.

Now the property will become 72 apartments with 80 on-site parking spaces.

Easton Mayor Sal Panto said the proximity of Easton Yards to I-78 will likely draw people who work in New Jersey but want to live in Easton.

He said he understands concerns about how new apartments could change the face of the neighborhood.

"It's a good project. That building used to employ a lot of people…it’s an ugly building. The renovations they're going to do will be beautiful,” Panto said.

Panto said another developer has expressed interest in renovating the adjacent Black Diamond property and turning it into affordable housing units.
