New executive delivers State of Lehigh County address

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Newly-elected Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong delivered his first State of Lehigh County from inside Coca-Cola Park.

Armstrong said he selected the stadium in east Allentown as the location for his address Thursday to highlight the success of the stadium's public-private partnership.

He highlighted several challenges county officials are facing, including affordable housing and the opioid epidemic.

Armstrong said meeting the challenges will require going beyond party and ideology.

"In local government, we have to start thinking policies not parties. We have to start working with progress, not political ideologies. We have to start meeting in the middle," he said.

Armstrong said he has an excellent relationship with the new board of Lehigh County Commissioners and he plans to work closely with the county's municipalities.
