New giraffe arrives at Lehigh Valley Zoo

SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. - The Lehigh Valley Zoo has a new member.

A 20-month-old giraffe named Tatu arrived safely Tuesday after a 650-mile ride from Greenville.

Staff at the zoo are providing extra care to Tatu, spending nights sleeping in the barn.

"Our Tatu is doing great," staff members said. "He is already bonding with the keepers over his favorite treats of kale and grain."

Tatu and the Lehigh Valley Zoo's famous giraffe Murphy will be gradually introduced to each other over the next several months. Tatu will not be made public for zoo guests until the two are fully acclimated.
