New horse therapy facility helps children with disabilities

New horse therapy facility helps children with disabilities

A facility with a unique type of teacher will soon be helping kids with disabilities.

The Lehigh Valley Coalition for Kids has partnered with "Equi-librium" to build a new facility that uses horse therapy as a way to reach children.

Kids with different cognitive, behavioral and physical disabilities will be able to get physical and occupational therapy while riding the organization's 13 horses.

"What therapeutic riding and carriage driving does for them it enables them to do lots of things they can't do with traditional therapies and improves their quality of life and therefore the quality of life for the people around them," said "Equi-librium" chair Polly Beste.

The facility will be built on 38 acres near the Route 33 and 512 intersection in Bushkill Township, Northampton County.

Building will begin in the spring and be completed by the end of next year.
