Former chief Ron Morey retired in August

NORTHAMPTON, Pa. - Bryan Kadingo was sworn in Thursday as Northampton Borough’s newest police chief.

Borough council unanimously approved Kadingo's appointment, following the completion of a successful background check. He was sworn in by Mayor Thomas Reenock.

Kadingo takes over for Chief Ron Morey, who retired in August.

In other news, council voted 6-1 to set at 5.94 percent the rate the borough contributes to the non-uniformed pension plan for fiscal year 2018. Councilman Edward Pany voted no.

Council also voted 7-0 to set 3 percent as the borough’s contribution rate to the non-uniformed defined contribution pension plan for 2018. Borough Manager LeRoy Brobst said that this amounts to $11,960, which is covered by state aid.

Council unanimously set the contribution rate police department employees make to the police pension fund for 2018. Brobast said this amount totals $5,961.

Council also agreed to change its Oct. 19 council meeting to Oct. 18.

The borough will hold Trick or Treat from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 31. Brobst said the police and fire departments are “always vigilant” in ensuring kids’ safety on Halloween.
