Northampton Co. horse euthanized after contracting West Nile virus

State officials say a Lehigh County horse had to be euthanized after it became infected with the West Nile Virus.

The state Department of Health says the horse contracted the disease in Northampton County.

It's the earliest confirmed case of West Nile in a horse since the disease first reached Pennsylvania in 2000.

State officials say the incident should serve as a reminder to vaccinate horses against the virus.
