Northampton County man facing kidnapping charges

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A Northampton County man is facing kidnapping charges after allegedly holding a woman against her will for about six hours.

Allentown police charged Jami J. Tukovits, of the 8000 block of Airport Road in East Allen Township, with a felony count of kidnapping to inflict terror or injury along with misdemeanor counts of false imprisonment and simple assault. District Judge Patricia Engler arraigned the 39-year-old late Monday morning, setting bail at $250,000.

The criminal complaint laying out Tukovits’ alleged crimes is scant on details, but the victim reportedly went to the Allentown police patrol station on Friday to file an assault report.

Court records indicate that the crime allegedly took place on Oct. 24 between roughly midnight and 6 a.m. and began in the area of 17th and Tilghman streets in Allentown. The victim alleged that Tukovits hit her and held her “against her will for multiple hours,” according to records.

The victim reported to Allentown police headquarters to provide a written statement and have pictures taken of her injuries.

Police arrested Tukovits on Monday. He failed to post bail following his arraignment and was sent to Lehigh County Jail to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 6.
