Notre Dame High School cross country coach breaks record for most wins

Art Corrigan earned his 600th girls team win

BETHLEHEM TWP., Pa. - A Northampton County cross country and track coach has reached a huge milestone in his career.

Coach Art Corrigan has been training athletes for decades at Notre Dame High School, but Tuesday's meet was different. It ended with a party.

Girls at Notre Dame High School cheered and celebrated with their cross country coach.

"I love coach. He's the nicest guy. He is always motivating," said runner Kelly Lynch.

Part of the partying is because their meet went well on Tuesday, but the big hooray is because Coach Art Corrigan just shattered another record.

"It's an amazing accomplishment and we love him so much," said runner Sarah Feil.

The winningest cross country coach in the country has the number 600 on a cake for a good reason.

"He hit 600 just at the end of last season with the boys team. Now he's hitting 600 with the girls and we are so proud of him," Feil said.

Coach Corrigan is proud of the 600th win he achieved and the work his team has accomplished.

He's been pushing runners for 32 years with intense workouts.

"Some of our guys and girls run 400 or 500 miles all summer.  We do a lot of hard work at cross country here at Notre Dame," Corrigan said.

He said since Notre Dame is one of the smaller schools he gets a extra thrill out of competing and coming out on top against the bigger schools.

He also gets a kick out of training generation after generation of athletes.

"It's amazing, five guys I coached their mom and dads in the 80s and early 90s. It's almost like the circle of life," said Corrigan.

Coach Corrigan has touched many runners' lives as they reach the finish line.
